Commercial Landscape Maintenance

TRU Landscape Services was called out to one of our Landscape Maintenance accounts, they called because they had water running up through the parking lot. After we ran some tests on the sprinkler systems we determined that it was a broken water main. Our client could have called a plumber at this point, but they decided to move forward and have us find and fix the water leak. We have had this maintenance contract for a few years and have built a good rapport with this company. We take care of different properties through out Orange County for this company. When they have a problem they know they can count on TRU Landscape Services in that we will take care of the situation in a prompt and professional manner.

Orange County Irrigation

This water main was leaking a lot of water into the parking lot. The problem was that there were several water mains at this location. So, first we had to do leak detection. We have a company we’ve been using for several years that we fully trust. After they located the leak we saw cut the parking lot and broke up the parking lot asphalt. Now that the parking lot was broke up, we loaded and hauled the asphalt to a company for recycling. TRU Landscape Services takes pride in recycling as much product as possible. Now, it was time to dig down and find the broken pipe. Our crew made fast work of finding the leak. At this point we cut the pipes open, drained the water out and made the repair. These breaks were able to use glue fittings. If the pipe was full of water we would’ve used a different repair, called a compression fitting. The benefit of a compression fitting is that when you make the repair you can turn the water back on. With glue joint repair we would have had to wait several hours before we turned the water back on. TRU Landscape Services has been making quality irrigation repairs in Orange County for over 20 years.

Parking Lot Repair

Now that the irrigation repair was made, we needed to repair the huge area of parking lot that we removed. TRU Landscape Services has an Asphalt Company that we’ve been doing business with for several years. We gave them a call and they sent out a crew the next day and did a high quality repair. After they were done making the repair, we sent out our crew to double check the site and make sure it was nice and clean. By TRU Landscape Services having these working relationships with many other companies, makes the whole process easier and more efficient for our customers. Call today for a free estimate on your irrigation system.

Cypress Landscape Project

TRU Landscape Services just finished a project in Cypress. Cypress is a city right on the border of Orange County and Los Angeles County. These were the perfect customers to work for. They knew what they wanted and had a good idea about how much money it would cost to achieve their landscape dream. This project is what our company is geared for, complete landscape construction. The first part of the work was to remove everything from the back yard. We demoed the existing concrete, patio cover and the existing sod. We could have removed the front yard at the same time, but the customers wouldn’t have a driveway to park, so we waited. After removing the back yard we installed the new footings for the patio cover and several pipes including the new gas line. We installed a new gas line for the new BBQ and Fire Pit. After installing all of the pipes we started forming for the concrete.

Cypress Concrete Install

TRU Landscape Services can provide all of your outdoor needs including concrete work. We designed this entire back yard. After forming up the outer edges of the concrete, we laid out the Barbeque design and the location of the Fire Pit. We always get the customers approval before moving forward. After the customer gave us their approval, we poured the back yard concrete. The back yard concrete was a Roman Stamp with 2 different colors in the concrete. The pour went, just as planned. Even though we are a landscape contractor we install concrete on a weekly basis. As one crew was installing the concrete, another crew was working on the planter wall. This planter wall had a concrete cap poured in place with Stack Stone on the side. This is a very detailed wall to build, but our crew did a great job!!

Cypress Hardscape Install

This project had a lot of hardscape. TRU Landscape Services installed the BBQ, planter walls, fireplace, Stack Stone and landscape curbing. All of these services are very detailed. Our crews did great work on all of these projects. As we mentioned earlier we designed this entire project, but we continued to meet with the customers on a regular basis. Every morning that we had a new install to the hardscape, we would call the day before and have our customers meet with us, it took about 10-15 minutes. If the customer presents us a set of blue prints, we still like to meet on a regular basis. When we are dealing with concrete it’s always better to meet for a few minutes then have to tear out the project and start over. The great thing is that our customers didn’t have to hire more than one company. During one meeting with our customers they mentioned they wanted all new windows, so we gave them a phone number of a company we have used in the past. It turned out that, that company was a little cheaper than the estimate they already had, so they went with our referral and the customers were very satisfied. We also referred a painting company we have used in the past, they loved his work. It takes one call – one company and that’s TRU Landscape Services. We take pride in every detail. Call today if you have any questions about hardscaping.

Orange County Patio Cover

TRU Landscape Services installed the wood patio cover in Cypress. This patio cover has an enclosed roof, which means you can enjoy it all year round. Under this patio cover is the BBQ which means if it’s raining out you can still enjoy a hamburger. We primed and painted the entire patio cover. TRU Landscape Services installs several different styles of patio covers.

Orange County Driveways

After finishing the back yard we moved to the front yard. In the front yard our customers chose a Slate Stamp for the driveway. This stamp looks like a versai pattern. At the same time we were installing the driveway our crew’s were starting the stucco install on the entire house, and the install of the new front entry way. TRU Landscape Services also installed the front of the house with stack stone. The customers were involved with the type of stone & color, we did help guide them in this process.

Yorba Linda Landscape

TRU Landscape Services is currently working in the city of Yorba Linda. This project involves two different projects. The first project, we are installing some yard drains. The second project, is to install some Synthetic Turf. We were called out to give an estimate for some drains that were clogged and/or were not working well. When we were looking at some drains in the grass area we noticed how bad the grass looked. It was really surprising because these customers are really into there plants. But in their defense, it was a small area of grass and they have a large dog. The grass was getting really beat up from the dog. Plus, it looked as if the grass was getting too much water. When the grass gets too much water on top of any dog running around on it, your going to end up with a muddy situation. We advised the customer that this was a perfect yard for Synthetic Turf. They agreed, but said that they priced the fake grass and it was too much money. We then explained to our customer how this was a perfect example of how we could save them money. The reason we can save them money is because we can install the drains and the Waterless Grass at the same time. Suddenly the project went from a small job to a medium size job for our company. In return for our customer we lowered our price for the Synthetic Turf, allowing them to get both projects finished, everyone was happy!

Orange County Synthetic Turf

TRU Landscape Services has been installing Synthetic Turf for the last 8 years in Orange County. We have had the same installers for the same amount of time. We only install Synthetic Turf that is made in the USA and is lead free. Our manufacture has been in business for several years. The amount of water that Synthetic Turf saves is unbelievable. The average house in Orange County uses ¾ of there monthly water usage, outside for there landscape. Most water agencies are raising there price on water to record levels. Our main water sources are at record lows. Help save water now. Call today for a free estimate.

Orange County Drains

The drains at this project have some major problems. Over several years of different companies working on the customers drains, they now have a maze of pipes running in all directions with no rhyme or reason. After running a complete check of the drain system, we decide it would be best not to get involved in the existing drain system. So we installed a new drain pipe in the area our customer was having a problem with. There are many different types of drain pipes we can use. We have found over many years of installing drains in Orange County that a SDR 35 pipe is the best for outdoor area drains. We do not use the cheap pipe sold at your local hardware store. These pipes will allow roots to grow right inside of them. The pipe we use has a glue joint that helps keep the roots out. Call us out today and let us design you a quality outdoor drain system.

Orange County Landscape

TRU Landscape Services just completed a landscape project in Aliso Viejo. Aliso Viejo is a city in Orange County, California. This city is surrounded by the city of Laguna Beach and the city of Laguna Niguel.
TRU Landscape Services works in all of the cities of Orange County, California. This project involved many different aspects of landscaping. We installed a free standing arbor (patio cover). We installed new concrete for the arbor and for the sitting area around the arbor. After being awarded the project, we had to summit our plans to the City for approval. Getting approval took about a week, then we began the project.

Orange County Patio Cover

To begin this project we had to haul out roughly 15 yards of dirt. We had to dig the footings for the patio cover. At the same time, we started leveling out the dirt for the new sitting area, which would be built out of concrete. This arbor had some serious footings. Every post had a 3 foot wide and 3 foot deep footing. First we had to remove all of the dirt and then install the rebar. Plus the whole arbor had a 2 foot wide footing. After installing the rebar and getting the inspection from the city, we poured the concrete. This arbor which is on the small side, has over 20 yards of concrete installed in the footings. This arbor is not going anywhere soon.

Orange County Concrete

TRU Landscape Services takes pride in installing the highest quality concrete in Orange County. While one of our crews was building the arbor, another crew was forming the concrete to be installed. This was a nice size concrete area. We set up all of our forms so that all of our concrete would drain to the area drains. After compacting the soil and installing the rebar we installed the concrete. We installed the concrete the next day and every thing went as planned. We were very happy with the way the concrete turned out! Our crews did a great job!

Orange County LED Lighting

Now that we had finished the first 2 major parts of this project it was time to install the LED Landscape Lighting. For this task we installed Vista Spot Light and Vista Path Lights. There are several low voltage light companies in Orange County to choose from. So why do we use Vista LED Lights? The first reason was, they were the highest quality light company that we felt comfortable enough to put our reputation on. Plus, they are a local company that makes there products in the USA. We have used there lights for over 15 years!! Plus as an extra bonus they have a 10 year warranty on their LED lights. The sales staff provides great customer service. TRU Landscape Services spends many hours on training our crews on proper lighting techniques. We know that when we finish a low voltage lighting project that our customers will get several years of satisfaction.

Orange County Concrete

TRU Landscape Services just completed a Concrete project for a Credit Union. TRU Landscape Services has work for this same credit union on several other projects. So, when they wanted to update there ATM and Entrance Concrete Walk Ways they called us out. TRU Landscape Services has been installing concrete in Orange County for over 20 years. This project was located in Signal Hill. Signal Hill is a small city that is basically a part of Long Beach, California. TRU Landscape Services will do work in all parts of California for our return customers. With fuel being so high we like to stay in Orange County. But customer satisfaction is our main goal.

Orange County Concrete Breaking

This project was difficult for our crews to remove during the day, our customer was open for business and didn’t want any noise during business hours. So, in order to provide the highest customer satisfaction we removed the concrete at night. Our concrete breaking crew showed up at 4:30 PM on a Saturday and started removing the concrete. A project of this size – we had to move in 2 bobcat tractors with concrete breakers attached. We had a couple of dumpsters delivered at 5 PM. We would normally haul away the concrete ourselves but since we were working after hours we had to use dumpsters. A lot of people believe that concrete is hauled to a land fill, not our concrete! We recycle it! We dump it at a plant where they crush it into road base. The road base is then used for various projects including a base that is installed under new roads. Our crew finished removing the concrete at 6 AM Sunday Morning.

Concrete Forms

After removing the concrete we brought in our concrete forming crew. First thing they do is figure out all of the grades. Grades are very important when your working with concrete. If the project is not formed properly you can end up with the water running towards the structure instead of away from it. If the water was to run towards the structure a lot of bad things could happen, possibly flooding the building. After working for many years in Orange County, TRU Landscape Services has been called out to several properties where this exact thing has happened. Most of the time we have to break out the concrete and replace it. Some times we can install area drains to move the water away from the structure. After setting up our concrete forms we schedule concrete for the next day.

Concrete Finishing

This project requires that we install the concrete in two different pours. Because of the area of the stairs and ramp to the ATM we had to install the concrete in the upper part one day and come back a second day and install the lower part. After pouring the concrete in the upper area, a guard was hired to keep the public from walking into the fresh concrete. This also helped protect people from walking into a construction zone. Our concrete finishing crew did a great job on both pours. We removed the concrete on a Saturday and the ATM was opened up for business on Thursday of the same week. Our customers were very happy with all of the work.

TRU Landscape Services just completed a job in Trabuco Canyon. Trabuco Canyon is located in Orange County, Ca. Trabuco Canyon is surrounded by the cities of Rancho Santa Margarita, Coto de Caza and Irvine. Our clients hired the current gardener to install new sprinklers and valves (picture above). After the gardener completed the work, the customers called TRU Landscape Services for a bbq estimate. After giving the customer an estimate for their bbq, we noticed their sprinkler valves were installed improperly. Not only did the gardener use the cheapest parts he could find, but he also installed the valves incorrectly. The way he installed the valves, would allow fertilizer and pesticides to flow back into the water supply to the house. After seeing this, we told the customer we had to give them an estimate to install the valves properly (picture Below). The customer had to pay twice to have their sprinkler valves installed once, properly. We also changed the sprinkler valves to commercial grade, eliminating the cheap grade valves that were existing.

Orange County BBQ

Our customers wanted to upgrade their bbq, so we designed a new bbq to fit their needs (picture to the left) . After receiving the OK from the customer we removed and hauled away the old bbq (picture below). At this point, we installed a new gas line, water line and electrical to the bbq. We started building the bbq with block; we believe block and concrete will outlast the competitions cheaper products giving our customers a longer lasting quality barbeque. On the new bbq, we installed a bar to provide an area for the customer’s family and friends to sit and socialize while our customer was preparing the food. TRU Landscape Services has been building bbq’s in Orange County for over 15 years.

Landscape Lighting

TRU Landscape Services installed all new LED landscape lighting in the front and back yards. We take pride in installing “Vista LED Lights“. These lights have excellent warranty on them. Most customers running their lights for 8 hrs. a night will have their lights last up to 18 yrs. These lights use 20% of the electricity compared to halogen bulbs. There is no bulb replacement or maintenance necessary on these lights. If a customer had a problem all they do is call us out and the light gets repaired or replaced for free. TRU Landscape Services has been installing landscape lighting in Orange County for the last 20 yrs.

TRU Landscape Services was awarded a project in Cypress, California. Cypress is located on the border of Orange County and Los Angeles County. This project is a complete remodel. We will be installing new stamped concrete. Stamped concrete is a process of pushing a form of a pattern down into the concrete. We have many stamps to choose from. This customer’s choice was a Belgium Slate for one area and an Ashlar Slate for another area. When installing a stamp concrete you can choose from many different colors. We usually install three different colors into the concrete. This gives a multicolor dimension throughout the concrete.

TRU Landscape Services installed a new BBQ on this project. With numerous companies selling these inexpensive pre-fab BBQ islands, we thought we’d explain how to build a BBQ Island the right way. First, we install a concrete footing into the ground to give the BBQ island strength. Then we install 6 inch blocks with rebar running through the middle of the blocks. After installing the block walls we fill the blocks full of concrete. At last, we install the counter tops. We like to use bull nose concrete for this process. We give our customers their choice on colors and products to be used. TRU Landscape Services has been building BBQ Islands in Orange County for the last 15 years. Why settle for an inexpensive pre-fab BBQ Island, when you can have a strong, attractive and long lasting BBQ Island that’s custom built?

This weekend our crews finished one of our current landscape projects in Yorba Linda. We love working in the city of Yorba Linda. Yorba Linda is surrounded by the cities of Anaheim Hills, Placentia and Fullerton. Yorba Linda is the birthplace of our 37th president Richard Nixon. Now let’s talk about the project. The first thing we did on this project was prep the soil for new plants & grass. After preparing the soil we started setting our forms for the new concrete patio. Well one crew was setting the forms for the concrete, the other crew was installing the sprinklers. The sprinkler system took us a couple of days to install. After we made sure all of the sprinklers were installed, we installed the electrical for the fountain.

Video of the project:

The customer was on a budget like most of us now days. So to help the customer save money we gave them options on the concrete finish. For a small back yard patio we recommend a color concrete with a diamond pattern installed in the finish. Why not install stamped concrete? First reason was the budget and the second reason was on a small patio, you might not get the full affect as you would on a larger area of concrete. The day that we pour concrete we only do light work around that area. We don’t want to take a risk of to much dust or someone dropping something on the fresh concrete. After working 20 years in the Orange County concrete business we have learned our lessons on what not to do, when working around wet concrete.

Final Touches

After the concrete dried we installed all of the plants & flowers. On this project the customers knew exactly what types of plants they wanted. This made our job allot easier. The customer had a game plan for the whole project. After all of the plants were installed, we installed the sod. Allot of landscape companies collect the check and hit the road. We follow up on our projects a couple of days after the completion of the project. To make sure the sprinklers are working fine and the new sod is happy. We would rather catch a small problem before it turns into a large problem. After a few days the customer reviewed the landscape project with us and made the final payment.

Orange County Irrigation Company

Now is the time to water your lawn!! We must receive five calls a week from customers asking for help. They haven’t been watering there lawns long enough. We have found out through over 20 years in the landscape industry that in Orange County most lawns fail due to a lack of water and fertilizer. In the summer months you must turn up your sprinklers so that enough water penetrates the root system. Every yard has different conditions like soil and sprinkler types but we say, the best rule of thumb for watering is to water as deeply and frequently as possible while avoiding runoff. If you have water running off the grass surface or puddling, your sprinklers are spraying too much at once, or your watering cycle is too long. Adjust as needed to avoid runoff. Early morning is the best time to water your lawn. A hour before the sun comes up. If your lawn is getting to wet try setting the timer for two start times. Once your lawn is green try turning your water down a few minutes and if in a week’s time the yard remains green leave your timer alone.

Water conservation

TRU Landscape Services is constantly learning the best ways to save water. We have ET timers that use satellites to control your watering. These timers will cut down your water usage by 20%. We have timers that can connect to your computer and we can adjust your sprinklers from our office. Many of the sprinkler companies have new sprinkler nozzles that will reduce your water usage. We have been installing Toro precision nozzles in all of our new landscapes and were really happy with them. Toro has made these nozzles so that you can install them on all other major sprinkler brands. This makes it really easy for us to come out to your property and change just the nozzles. These nozzles will save you up to 35% of your water usage. Irritrol has a new climate Logic, this system uses your old timer and gives it commands on how much to water. You will have your own little weather station attached to your property. One of the best ways to have a green yard at all times is to hire a professional landscape maintenance company. A professional company will adjust your sprinklers for proper watering all year long. We strive to train all of our crews to conserve water and still maintain a lush green lawn. At TRU Landscape Services we fertilize all of our properties on a regular basis. By fertilizing your lawn and plants on a regular basis you provide all of the nutrients that they need. Most lawns will require less water when fertilized on a regular basis. We have many customers ask what kind of fertilizer is best.. We use different fertilizers for every season. Our best recommendation is to hire a professional maintenance company. But if you like to maintain your lawns yourself, we would recommend your local farm supply or a irrigation supply house. We would avoid the large chain stores because you never know how much experience the person selling you the fertilizer has.

Laguna Niguel Outdoor living

TRU Landscape Services just completed an outdoor living area in, Laguna Niguel. Laguna Niguel, is a city in Orange County, which is bordered between the cities of Laguna Hills, Aliso Viejo and Mission Viejo. This project was a fun and exciting project from day one up until the last day. We were called out on a Tuesday to give a free estimate. The customer had great ideas on what they wanted, and we were able to furnish them with an estimate in only three days. The customers gave us an OK to start the project. Usually, most projects start within a two week time frame from the time the estimate is approved, but we were able to start this project immediately. This back yard had a poorly installed putting green in which we began by removing it along with several inches of dirt. My crew did this in a quick, but clean manner. This allowed us to install a new concrete slab. Our customers wanted new Flag stone in their front walk way and travertine marble installed in the back yard.

Orange County Hard Scape

TRU Landscape Services takes pride in installing quality materials. We begin installing the new Flag Stone by pouring a new concrete slab. Therefore, this project first had to have a large concrete pour. The concrete we installed had rebar every 2 feet on center and we poured 3½ inches of new concrete. This lets us sleep at night knowing that the new stone has a firm foundation. There are a lot of contractors that will lay their stone right into the wet concrete, which is fine if they already laid down the rebar in the sub surface, but most likely they skip this step which allows the stone to show cracks right away. With saying that, there is no guarantee that our process won’t produce cracks too, but we feel this is the strongest way to install stone work. After pouring the concrete we installed all of the Flag Stone and Travertine. This customer has a young family that likes to go to the beach on a regular basis. We all know once you go to the beach, we all have sand everywhere, so to fix this problem we built them an outdoor shower area. We have a feeling that this outdoor shower will not only be great for removing the sand, but the kids are going to have fun playing in it. It’s allot cheaper then a pool.

Synthetic Turf

The customers had a small area in the back yard that they wanted to plant grass in. The only problem is that there was a shade problem. Grass must have at least 4 hours of direct sun light to survive. We explained to the customer, that if we install Synthetic Turf in this area there is no need for a gardener. They can keep the back gate locked and save money on their Landscape Maintenance. After, installing the synthetic turf, we installed all of the new landscaping. The new landscaping included a new sprinkler system, we used Toro precision nozzles on their sprinkler heads which will save them 35% of the water used on the landscaping. Along with the synthetic turf and water saving sprinklers their water bill will be reduced. Which will make running their outdoor shower that much more enjoyable.
